Endemic to the Mamberano River system in Western New Guinea, the Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia praecox) is a stunning, active species best kept in groups of at least 8 to 10 specimens. Suitable for aquariums at least 3 ft / 1 m in length to accomodate their swimming behaviors, these fish prefer densely planted aquariums with some open areas. A hardy, unfussy species, the M. praecox is suitable for beginners and experts alike, and is an ideal entry into the wonderful world of rainbowfish!
