Species Spotlight | Pearl Gourami

Aquatics expert Tom Sarac provides an in-depth overview of one of the most beautiful anabantids – the Pearl Gourami!

Endemic to Southeast Asia, the Pearl Gourami (Trichopodus leerii) is a peaceful, widely available, and absolutely stunning fish. Reaching lengths of approx. 4.5" / 11 cm, the species is best kept in dimly-lit aquariums with an abundance of live plants, some driftwood branches and roots, and sand substrates. Although relatively undemanding in terms of both feeding and water parameters, Pearl Gouramis look best when offered a varied diet of high-quality dry and frozen foods, and when kept in very clean, warm water!
