A distinctive anemone, it has a very wide flat tentacle base which,
when open, does resemble a pizza, giving rise to one of its common
names. It is capable of folding this up like a ball when a fish brushes
past. Colour forms include green, brown and tan.
This species will undergo a periodic regenerative change where the outer layer is shed. It is a natural phenomenon, although frequently mistaken by a health problem. Its colour varies incredibly and largely depends on the photosynthetic algae that live in symbiosis with the coral. It is most abundant in the flat areas of the reef.
The diet should include feedings of fish, mussels, shrimp, or other foods of this type.
